IS MATCHA JUST ANOTHER WORD FOR GREEN TEA?

Despite their common denominator being the Camellia Sinensis plant, or green tea plant, Matcha and green tea are extremely different.

Due to different production techniques, growing methods and preparation, the final product, premium Matcha, is completely different from regular green tea.

Matcha is a 100% finely ground powder made from the leaves of this plant, which contains an incredibly rich treasure trove of antioxidants, minerals, vitamins and other nutrients. Green tea, on the other hand, often comes in tea bags or loose tea, where we only consume it as a tea, which significantly reduces its benefits.

While green tea is grown in the sun, Matcha needs shade. It is carefully protected from direct sunlight for three weeks before harvesting, which increases the chlorophyll levels and creates a vibrant green color in the leaves. While green tea in the sun becomes a dull green, with a slight brownish tint.

Green tea is usually harvested by machine and then immediately steamed to stop fermentation. The leaves are then dried using vortex machines. In Ceremonial Matcha, on the other hand, the leaves are hand-picked, the stems and veins are carefully removed, and the remaining leaves are steamed to preserve their freshness and nutritional value.

The taste of green tea can be light and fresh, with grassy or earthy notes, and sometimes slightly bitter, depending on how it is prepared. However, premium Matcha offers a richer, sweeter taste and a silky texture that is completely unique.

Due to the production method, where the entire leaf is ground into a powder, Matcha retains all of its nutrients. When we drink green tea, we simply steep the leaves in hot water and then throw away the tea bags or loose tea, which means they retain very few nutrients.

Therefore, Matcha is not just another word for green tea.
